It's funny how you realize the only care-taking skills you know of are
your mother's. Which makes sense but to see it in action makes you
feel... weird. The family is away for 10 day on a trip to Europe.
My younger brother is not feeling well. I'm not feeling well either, but I'm feeling a
lot better than he is. I mostly have a bad cold (ya I know strange right in this hot weather) That means I walk
around with frizzy hair, no makeup, breath through my mouth, constantly
spit yellow phlegm into the sink, and reward myself with chocolate
biscuits.
Poor Ben started off the weekend with a fever that (we think) peaked at 38.5 degrees C . We would know
for sure except the second thermometer we bought in 3 days broke - not sure if it's made in China- too sick to check! I was really worried at first that he might have dengue, but it didn't
sound like he had all of the symptoms and they weren't that severe. We
bought some panadol and that seemed to help.
The fever subsided by the beginning of the week, but now as of yesterday
he has diarrhea and painful stomach cramps. He went to the doctor, who
basically has written it up to a stomach bug... but the cramps have
gotten worse since then so a trip to the doctor again may be in order
for tomorrow depending how he feels when he wakes up in the morning.
I started off this entry thinking I was going to write about how I find
myself doing all these "mummy things" to take care of him - making
congee, buying soda (although I did cave to Ben's will and bought coke
instead of 7up), and sweet, milky, egg-drop oatmeal. But now i just feel worried:
Today: Ben is back to craving ice cream and less than 2 bowel movements a day. Thanks for your concern, ya'll!
